Welcome to Day 8 of our 40 days of Prayer and Fasting, and the first day of our focus on Prophetic Leadership.
God has called us into this season of separation to prepare us for purpose. The wilderness has always been God’s workshop, where He shapes ordinary people into trustworthy vessels for extraordinary assignments. And one of the greatest gifts God gives in the wilderness is restoration.

Many believers look back with regret over years spent pursuing the wrong things, making poor decisions, or simply drifting without intentional devotion to God. The enemy convinces us those years are permanently lost. But God can redeem what seems wasted. Through surrender, He restores alignment and accomplishes in a short time what would otherwise have taken many years.

Paul in the letter to the church in Ephesus writes:
Ephesians 5:15-16

15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise
16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

The phrase redeeming the time means to buy it back or make the most of every opportunity. While you cannot relive yesterday, you can surrender today. Every moment yielded to God becomes an opportunity for Him to restore what distraction, disobedience, or complacency has stolen.

2 It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea.

Israel spent forty years making what should have been an eleven-day journey. The wilderness itself was never the problem; unbelief and repeated disobedience were. Every complaint and every refusal to trust God prolonged what should have been a brief season of preparation.

Yet the opposite is also true. When a heart fully yields to God, He has a remarkable way of compressing time for such person. Moses spent forty years hidden in Midian, but when God’s appointed time came, everything changed in a moment at the burning bush. David spent years tending sheep before wearing a crown, yet not a single day was wasted because God was forming the shepherd who would one day lead a nation. Paul’s years away from public ministry after his encounter with Christ were not years of inactivity but years building himself.

One of the greatest deceptions in this time is the belief that productivity is always the same as progress. People who walk in alignment are not merely busy people; they are people who know how to prioritize God above every other demand. This is one of the reasons for this season of fasting.

As you fast, you are buying back time that has been consumed by distractions and returning it to the One who gave you life; the One who created time and knows how it is meant to be spent. In the only psalm attributed to Moses, he prayed, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). You do not naturally know how to steward your days; you must be taught and led by the One who stands outside of time.

The Lord told Jeremiah:

5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

If God knew you before He formed you, then He alone knows the purpose for which you were created. Who better to teach you how to spend your time than the One who designed your life before time ever introduced you to it? Every hour surrendered to Him is not time lost; it is time invested in becoming the person He intended you to be.

Before stepping into public ministry, Jesus withdrew into the wilderness for forty days. From a human perspective, it may have looked like time lost. Yet those forty days were not delaying His assignment; they were preparing Him for it. Time spent with the Father is never time wasted.

Perhaps you feel you have fallen behind. Maybe there are years you wish you could reclaim. The good news is that God specializes in restoration. When you genuinely return to Him, He realigns your steps so that what seemed like delay becomes part of His preparation.

So as we continue in this season, ask yourself this question:
What has been receiving the time that belongs to God?

Refuse to believe the lie that you are too late. God’s grace is greater than your regrets. Give Him the time He deserves, and let Him reorder your heart, renew your mind, and realign your life.
Only God can restore years. He redeems what the past appeared to lose, and weaves surrendered years, painful years, and even wasted years into His purpose. That is the hope of the wilderness. It is not simply that you survive it, but that you leave it carrying everything your calling requires. Nothing surrendered to God is ever truly lost.

Pray this way:
Father, during these 40 days of fasting and prayer, I surrender my time completely to You. Redeem every wasted season, realign my life with Your purpose, and teach me to value Your presence above everything. May every moment I spend with You prepare me for the assignment You have ordained for me.
