60 Days Prayer & Fasting: Activating Angelic Ministry through Consecration & Sacrifice (Day 37)
Hebrews 1:14
Fire stopped being a mere accident humans stumbled upon the moment we understood the science behind its occurrence. Scientists call this “The Fire Triangle,” a principle that highlights the three essential elements required to ignite and sustain fire — an energy source or spark to kindle it, oxygen to support combustion, and a combustible material to fuel it. For the purpose of this devotional, we’ll refer to this fuel as the Sacrifice.
Hebrews 1:7
New King James Version
7 And of the angels He says: ‘Who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire.’
Many of us grew up picturing angels as cute, winged figures floating around in white garments or diapers. Yet, the Scriptures challenge this notion. The verse above reveals that our understanding of angels has often been far from the truth. The word “angel” itself describes their function as messengers and not merely their nature. The text tells us they are spirits, immaterial and disembodied beings. The phrase “His ministers a flame of fire” further describes their sometimes fiery manifestation and divine function. From the opening phrase “And of the angels He says,” it is clear that this fiery description still refers to these heavenly beings.
Psalm 104:4
New King James Version
4 Who makes His angels spirits, His ministers a flame of fire.
The psalmist affirms the same truth: angels are spiritual beings who can manifest as flames of fire. Moses’ encounter at the burning bush further emphasizes this.
Exodus 3:2
2 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
This encounter reveals that angels can manifest as fire, confirming their nature as fiery ministers of God. Hallelujah!
Hebrews 1:14
King James Version
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
And who are these heirs of salvation? Beloved, it is you and I. Those who have believed in the redemptive work of Christ. We are joint heirs with Him. Therefore, angelic ministration is a divine privilege granted to every believer. It is a gracious benefit we received at salvation, an extension of God’s divine assistance available to His children.
This revelation must settle in your heart until it becomes a conviction; receive it, expect it, and walk in it. The Bible calls angels ministers, meaning “servants” or “attendants.” They are assigned to partner with believers, to meet their needs, and to assist them both in life and in ministry. You must open your spirit to this reality so as to live conscious of this divine partnership.
This truth was evident even in the life of Jesus:
Matthew 4:10-11
King James Version
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
After Jesus’ prolonged fast and His victory over temptation, angels came to minister to Him.
Luke 22:41-43
New King James Version
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
In His moment of deep anguish before the cross, Jesus prayed earnestly, and though the cup was not removed, His prayer was answered; an angel appeared and strengthened Him for the task ahead.
In fact, throughout Scripture, we see angels active. Bringing provision, granting victory, ensuring divine protection, and delivering favor. These accounts reveal that angelic ministry is not ancient history; it is a present reality. However, to walk consistently in this divine partnership, we must understand how to activate it.
Just like the fire triangle requires certain elements to sustain fire, the realm of the Spirit also has divine principles that enable us to experience angelic ministry continually. Two of these are Consecration and Sacrifice.
1. The Sacrifice of Devotion (Consecration)
Hebrews 13:15
King James Version
15 By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.
The writer of Hebrews reminds us that devotion must not be limited to moments of convenience. If you only pray when it feels comfortable, you likely have not made a lifestyle of prayer . Consecration involves sacrificing personal comfort— your desires and appetites all for the sake of an emphasis on God’s presence in your life.
It’s Day 37, and there are still 23 days to go. God has so much more in store for you! Press deeper in prayer and study. Let your altar of devotion continue to burn brightly as you grow in intimacy and consecration.
2. The Sacrifice of Service
Luke 1:8-11
King James Version
8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course…
11 there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
It was in the place of service that Zechariah encountered an angel of God. Service positions you for Angelic encounters. When you serve in God’s house, you prioritize His work above your comfort and the edification of his people while you pursue yours. Can your service unit members rely on you to carry out your task promptly? Can God count on you to serve faithfully? This season of fasting and prayer is a call to renewed commitment in service. As you serve dilligently and wholeheartedly, watch as angels of God partner with you in your divine assignment.
3. The Sacrifice of Giving
Although our giving today may not resemble the priestly offerings of old, the principle remains. Give to God through your local church, to spiritual leaders, to fellow believers, and to the less privileged. Don’t reserve generosity only for seasons of abundance. A true sacrifice costs something — it must touch you.
A man of Consecration is a man of sacrifice. One who willingly yields his ambitions even if it costs him convenience, in order to prioritize God’s desire. The resources of heaven are easily made accessible to such a man who zealously pursues the instructions of the Lord. He has the backing of God. Such is the man whom God’s Angels flock after.
For fire to burn, there must be fuel; for angelic ministry to be active, there must be sacrifice and consecration. Could it be that some have missed angelic encounters simply because they were unaware of this principle? This period of consecration is a call of mercy, inviting us to return to a life of consecration and sacrifice. As you lift your prayers, worship, service, and giving as sacrifices to God, watch as His angels move on your behalf.
Prayer Point
Lord, I thank You for the ministry of angels and for granting me this divine privilege. As I pray, let my spirit remain open to this reality. Help me live a life of consecration as a living sacrifice that sustains the partnership with Your angels.
