60 Days Prayer & Fasting: Expectations (Day 46)
Ephesians 3:20
Expectations show you know what you are going for, whom you are going to meet. It keeps your heart focused and aligned.
Having expectations is like a student showing up to class with a notebook open and a pen in hand. That student comes ready to learn, ready to take notes, and ready to apply what is being taught. Their preparation reveals that they value the opportunity before them. Imagine, however, a student who walks into class empty-handed, no pen, no book, no readiness to learn. Such a student, though physically present, is unprepared to receive what the teacher has to offer.
In the same way, when a believer comes into a special meeting, like this Camp Meeting season, without a sense of expectation, it shows they do not fully grasp the magnitude of the opportunity God has placed before them. God has called for this meeting, not as a routine event. God is ready to teach, impart, and transform, but will you come ready to receive?
Luke 8:43–44
New King James Version
43 “Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.”
This woman came to Jesus with one thing: expectation. She believed that if she could just touch His garment, she would be healed. That expectation was her ticket. She came ready to receive, and she did. Her hunger and faith drew power from Jesus, so much so that even in a crowd, he noticed her touch. She came hungry to receive. What’s remarkable is that Jesus wasn’t even necessarily looking to heal her at that moment. He was simply passing by, yet her expectation drew virtue out of Him. Her faith placed a demand on His power. That is what true spiritual hunger does. Take a look at the story of the centurion.
Luke 7:7
New King James Version
7 “Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.”
The centurion also came with expectation. He didn’t need Jesus to visit his house; he only needed a word. His faith showed he understood the authority of Christ’s word. Jesus marveled at him because his expectation was evidence of deep belief. This kind of expectation always draws God’s attention. In both cases, expectation was not passive, it was active, bold, and expressed through action. This is the kind of expectation that unlocks divine possibilities. You must realise that God has a track record of meeting and exceeding expectations. He is not limited by our requests; He delights in surpassing them.
We see this also in the story of the widow and Elisha:
2 Kings 4:1–7
New King James Version
1 “A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, ‘Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.’
2 So Elisha said to her, ‘What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?’ And she said, ‘Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.’
3 Then he said, ‘Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.’
4 And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.’
5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.
6 Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, ‘Bring me another vessel.’ And he said to her, ‘There is not another vessel.’ So the oil ceased.”
7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”
So even your expectation is a show of your faith, God exceeded this woman’s expectations. She asked for help with a debt; God gave her abundance for her future. But notice the instruction: “Do not gather just a few.” The size of her expectation determined the measure of her miracle. The oil only stopped when the vessels stopped coming. In the same way, the measure of your expectation determines how much of God’s outpouring you will experience at this Camp Meeting. Expectation is proof of faith. It shows you believe that God will move. It shapes your attitude, your prayer, and your level of preparation. A student who believes a test is coming will study. A believer who believes God will visit will pray, prepare, and stay alert.
Ephesians 3:20 New King James Version
20 “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”
This verse reminds us that our expectations are not too big for God. In fact, even our greatest dreams are still small compared to His capacity. When we expect from God, we honor His nature as a good Father who gives generously. God doesn’t leave our expectations hanging in the air, he meets us halfway. He never stirs up desire without providing satisfaction. He doesn’t just give hunger but he can satisfy it. When you come hungry, he comes with bread. When you come thirsty, He comes with living water. When you come ready, He comes in power.
Isaiah 44:3 New King James Version
3 “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty,
And floods on the dry ground;
I will pour My Spirit on your descendants,
And My blessing on your offspring.”
God responds to hunger. He fills the empty and satisfies the longing soul. When expectation and hunger meet the power of God, there are endless possibilities. Pursuit is the proof of desire. If you truly want to receive from the Lord in this season, it will show in how you pray, how you prepare, and how you posture your heart.
Set your expectations before Him, write them down, pray over them. Believe that God will meet and surpass them.
The Bible says:
Mark 11:24 New King James Version
24 “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
This scripture tells us to expect our expectations to be met. This means as you pray in this season, you can come to prayer with the consciousness that your God is ready to give you all you ask and even more than what you’re asking for. Listen, maybe you’re even asking for too little or you’re expecting too little. As we continue this season of fasting and prayer, I want you to raise your expectations.
If you haven’t yet written down your expectations, do so today. Be intentional. Write them out, pray over them, and speak them aloud. Let your faith rise as you prepare for what God is set to do. What would you ask the Lord if indeed you knew that nothing is impossible with him according to his will?
Prayer Point:
As I prepare for Camp Meeting, I pray that my heart is ready, my mind is alert, hunger is stirred up within me. Let my expectations be met and exceeded in this season.
