What to do with God’s Word: Remember
Numbers 23:19
Has it ever happened to you that you were sent to the pharmacist to get a medicine, and because you were quite young, you were told to keep repeating the name of that medicine all the way to the store? You set off saying it under your breath, determined not to forget. But then you got distracted; maybe a friend pulled you into a game on the way or distracted you, and by the time you realized it, the name was gone.
What do you think happens when you finally get to the store? You either end up buying the wrong thing entirely and go home to be scolded, or you stand there struggling under pressure, trying to recall it.
This is exactly what can happen with the word of God that you have received if you are not deliberate.
The Catalyst Camp Windsor was just concluded, and it is no news that there is even more to be received at The Catalyst Camp Lagos, but you need to understand that this isn’t a routine to complete; this isn’t an event for entertainment to be completed, and that is why you must pause and reflect on all that you have received so far.
There is a fundamental reality in Numbers 23:19
New King James Version
19 God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
You can be sure that all God has spoken, He will do, but is your heart in remembrance of His words, or do you just receive them by writing in your journal and leaving it at that?
You wouldn’t want your situation to be like a basket into which water is poured but never stays in it. You wouldn’t want all the words and impartation you have received as an individual and part of your local assembly to go to waste.
Yesterday, you were encouraged to let the words you have been filled with continually dwell in your heart, ponder and meditate on them. But it doesn’t end there. When you look at Scripture, you can see an example of a man who held on to God’s word, and it was evident in the result it produced.
Romans 4:19-21
New King James Version
19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
Abraham didn’t just keep the word in his heart, but held on to it continuously.
This is the same charge Moses gave Israel after recounting all that God had spoken and done for them at Horeb.
Deuteronomy 4:9
New King James Version
9 Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren
Moses was not simply telling the people to remember the encounter they once had. He had just walked them through everything God had done and said, and his instruction was that they guard themselves and take heed. It was possible that what they had seen and heard could depart from their hearts. This is the same kind of deliberateness you are being called to now.
What you have received at this camp meeting was not given to admire for a season and then let fade. Don’t be the kind of believer who heard, who saw, who received, and yet still allowed it to depart simply because you did not take heed to yourself. You can be the kind that holds on, the way Abraham held on, refusing to let any of it slip.
You can emphasize how much the word has changed you and how your understanding has been sharpened, but you will need to keep up with God’s words and instructions to you consciously. Commit to it by noting them every day. When you wake, declare these words into your day; as you go about the day, say them so much that you can’t forget. Be determined that you will not continue a cycle where you receive and forget.
Prayer Point
Father, I am grateful for all you have said over my life. I am conscious of these words and your instructions to me, and I keep them in remembrance. Every promise, every instruction, every word from this camp meeting is sealed in my heart, and will produce results in me.
