What To Do After A Special Meeting 2
Ephesians 5:18-19
Picture yourself as a fitness trainer. You and the person you’re training just had a long and productive session. You both feel energized and pleased with session. Imagine then, in a rapid twist of events, your trainee doesn’t show up to the gym for the next 6 months thinking that that one session would be enough to sustain him and his fitness goals for the rest of the year. Doesn’t that sound absurd? Or maybe because you’ve run a marathon you decide “well that’s it for walking the rest of this year”. That’s the same absurdity you portray when after a power packed spiritual meeting you decide to “take time off” or slack in your spiritual devotion.
There is a tendency for us to under-compensate after expending yourself in prayer and in the teaching of God’s Word for a period of time when that should not be the case. Did you know that prior to starting his earthly ministry, Jesus fasted and prayed 40 days and 40 nights? If we were to apply the same logic then he wouldn’t need to pray again for the remaining duration of his ministry but let us see what his custom was.
Luke 6:12
New King James Version
12 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Luke 5:16
New King James Version
16 So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.
Matthew 14:23
New King James Version
23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.
The afore mentioned scriptures show us that Jesus had a reputation of remaining in the place of prayer. And not matter how long or heartfelt each prayer session was, he always went back. The same should be said of us. Camp meetings or periods of spiritual emphasis should stir you up unto even more consecration and even more devotion to the things of God. In order to sustain all that you have received and all that has been built in you, you must remain ablaze. Remain filled.
Ephesians 5:18-19
New King James Version
18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
Being filled with the Spirit connotes coming under the Spirits’ influence and during a special meeting such as a camp meeting, you are in a an environment that promotes being filled due to the long hours of prayer and time info the Word among others. However, when such a meeting is over the instruction to be filled is not lost on us. Yes, the meeting left you changed but you don’t need to wait until the next camp meeting before you are vibrant in devotion again.
It is God’s plan for you to always be filled with the Spirit. You do not have to experience down times on your devotion while waiting for the next camp meeting to revive you. It is possible for you to keep up the momentum. In fact, it is necessary that you do. If you truly want to see all God said would happen, if you truly want to live and walk as a changed man, then you must stay stirred up. Keep the fire burning.
This can and will be your testimony in the year 2024.
Prayer Point:
I declare that I am full of the Spirit this month and beyond. I remain ablaze. I will not have down time. This year, I lead a vibrant devotion.
