Mission Possible
Matthew 28:19-20
A Christian mission is an organized effort to carry on evangelism or other activities by individuals and groups across boundaries, most commonly geographical boundaries to preach the gospel. However, on an individual scale, it means preaching the message of the gospel to the lost.
The idea of missions is to preach the gospel and get men saved by bringing them to the knowledge of the Son of God! We find precedence for mission work in scripture.
Matthew 28:19-20
New King James Version
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you
always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
In the Great Commission, we see Jesus instructing his disciples to go out and make disciples of all nations, to teach them, and to get them saved. Mission work serves to pass across the teachings, principles, and doctrines of the faith. It serves to reach as many as are unreached with the powerful message of the gospel. Every believer has been called to mission work. It is not just for some people. It is God’s desire so it must be our desire.
1 Timothy 2:4
New King James Version
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
It is God’s desire that not some but all men be saved and experience the joy of the gospel.
When you got saved and you were taught the gospel, it transformed your life. Think about how many other lives get to enjoy the same transformation because of mission work.
The gospel would never have spread if the disciples did not preach the gospel on the field. Missions usually speak of dedicated individuals venturing into distant lands to share the gospel with unreached communities and societies that have minimal exposure to Christianity, enduring linguistic, cultural, and logistical challenges in their endeavor to spread the gospel.
There are local missions as well that involve ministering to immediate communities, organizing charitable initiatives, conducting Bible studies, and fostering spiritual growth among those they
encounter daily. Such local missions uphold the same objective as global missions -to propagate the gospel and invite individuals into a life-transforming relationship with Christ. This is the Father’s desire!
In essence, whether near or far, the ultimate goal remains consistent: to lead people to receive the life of Christ and to disciple them. Each individual’s role in missions, irrespective of its geographical scope, contributes to the collective fulfillment of the Great Commission. Both approaches underscore God’s love and His desire for all individuals to experience salvation.
Romans 1:16
New King James Version
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Apostle Paul could declare this boldly because he understood that the message of the
gospel was all it took to get a man saved. In a world where people have tried and still try to get into the ‘good graces’ of God by works, there is a need to be louder with the message. Hence, the importance of mission work!
For the believer, the Great Commission must not be the Great Omission! Each soul is important. Each must be saved and become a disciple. An understanding of the message of the gospel instills in you an urgency to preach it.
Romans 10:14
New King James Version
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they
believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
The gospel is a message and it needs men to preach it! Every believer has received the Great Commission that because of the love of God, all it takes to receive eternal life is to believe the gospel of Jesus! Knowing this, those who do not believe have a reward also.
John 3:18
New King James Version
18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned
already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
The preceding verse to this is the famous John 3:16 which reminds us all about the love of God. However, in the same chapter, we see that those who do not believe have been condemned already!
It is not the desire of God’s heart that men are condemned. He desires that they are saved! Missions emphasize this for the believer. From today, as you go about your day, make up your mind to push the message of the gospel more than ever before. Contribute to the field work, and be a part of the harvest of souls. The work would prosper in your hands and men’s eternal destination would be altered just because you shared the gospel! You have something so powerful to give the world. Don’t hoard it!
Prayer Point:
Father, I thank you for the power of the gospel. I declare that from today, I am stirred up for more evangelism. Men are saved and become disciples through me.
