Preach The Word 4

Preach The Word 4

Acts 1:8

In our series this week, we’ve highlighted the importance of preaching the Word and the necessity of both studying and praying in preparation for this task. Today, we turn our focus to the practical aspects of evangelizing to those in our immediate surroundings.

Our purpose as believers is to know God and make him know. If you succeed at everything but fail in this then you have failed. This is why we are on this earth, this is our purpose. And this is not about social media speeches or long posts it is about going literally into all the world to preach the gospel.

It is important to note that we are not just here to know God but to make Him know- tell the world about Jesus.

Acts‬ ‭1:8‬

New King James Version

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

The responsibility of spreading the gospel was initially entrusted to just 11 men, and it is through their efforts that the message has reached both you and me. This fact alone should inspire us to follow in their footsteps. Despite lacking the modern conveniences we enjoy today, these dedicated men carried the gospel to the ends of the earth!

Here are some things you should do when you go on evangelism:

  1. Pray:

Before setting out to evangelize, make it a priority to pray for those you intend to reach. We’ve stressed the significance of prayer in preparation for evangelism. As you embark on your journey to share the gospel in person, praying helps you to be more discerning. Pray in the spirit while preaching, pray in the Spirit to stay alert, pray for utterance, pray, and engage the supernatural.

  1. Partner with the Spirit:

2 Corinthians 3:4-6

Easy Standard Version

4 Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God.

5 Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God,

6 who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

The Apostle Paul says, this is our confidence, that we are not sufficient in ourselves but our sufficiency comes of God.

Paul says it’s not about your capabilities or strength. It is not even about what your incapacitates or weaknesses are. It is not about how insurmountable the task may seem. Instead, it is more about who is working on your inside. It is about who is with you. Your sufficiency is not in your capabilities but in God.

God made us sufficient ministers of the new covenant by his Spirit. He sent us and he has empowered us for it. Always remember that you go in His ability and that His Spirit will work in their hearts as you share the gospel.

  1. Preach intelligently:

Peter instructs us in his epistle to be ready to give a defense for every question we are asked. Paul instructs us to be diligent laborers in doctrine and able to rightly divide the word. This also means that you should articulate how you present the gospel.

You must be sharp, and be able to explain the gospel properly and clearly with whatever time you have. As you prepare to evangelize, think of possible questions that can be asked and be ready to answer them with Scriptures to prove your point.

Don’t be caught off guard!

  1. Follow up:

Follow-up! Follow-up is important post evangelism whether you got a soul saved or they just has more questions. Always remember to constantly pray and follow up on them as Christianity is a taught faith. If they aren’t already part of a local church, take them to church.

Dedicate time to prayer and the study of Scriptures together. Approach your follow-up efforts with purpose and determination, rather than leaving it to happenstance. Most essentially, take on the task of discipleship.

Dear believer, you have been given a mandate and you must fulfil this mandate. Let people know what you have received. Let them enjoy what you experience in Christ. Remember Christ came to die for ALL OF MANKIND, not just for you or your family or your neighbors but for all of mankind. So place priority on the souls of men.

Prayer Point:

Father, I pray for more zeal for the souls of men. I pray for more passion for evangelism, and I place priority on going out to preach to men. Henceforth, I am much more active in my evangelical walk.
