Order By The Spirit

Genesis 1:1-3

Welcome to another week of special devotion to God in fasting and prayers. Special times of retreats like this are impactful to the extent that we prepare for them and so the difference between two people’s experiences in seasons like this can be preparation and expectancy.

My advice to you is to build up your expectations and be ready for your life to be changed because it truly will be.

Have you ever experienced the urge to organize your room or tidy up after you are done praying? I’ve had this sensation numerous times, and I’ve wondered why. Perhaps you’re wondering the same thing. What is it about prayer that inspires us to create order in our physical space?

The Bible says in Genesis 1

Genesis 1:1-3

King James Version

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The Bible says that the Earth was without form and void, that is, there was chaos. Void there represents a lack of order.
There was also darkness which symbolizes the same lack of order. The darkness we see here was not just an absence of light but chaos and disorder.

The phrase “without form and void” in Hebrew is Tohu Bohu which is a state of chaos.

Notice something peculiar here, the Bible says that the spirit of God moved over the face of the water. That movement in some instances is described as brooding and we have some indication that there was water covering the deep.

In ancient Near Eastern culture, a large body of water often symbolized the beginning of the world, where there was chaos and disorder. This imagery is seen in the Book of Daniel where unusual creatures emerge from the waters. Similarly, the book of Genesis employs this imagery to depict the world’s state of disarray before God’s intervening act of creation and order.

Then the Bible says:
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”

The Word of God came and it was fulfilled but before the Word, came the Spirit of God was brooding.

This is a common idea in the way God operates. It is in this synergy of the Word and the Spirit that God brings order.
For example, Jesus already said in

John 2:18-22

New King James Version

18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”

19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”

21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.

22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.

In this and many instances, Christ already spoke of his resurrection. The apostle later speaks of this resurrection in the book of Romans saying:

Romans 8:11

New King James Version

11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

So it is the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead even though the Word had been spoken as well.

We are learning that the Spirit and the Word have an interconnected balance in the operation of God.

Jesus (the son) is God in human flesh but when God wanted to abide in man eternally it is the spirit he sent.

When man’s sin was paid for, it was his spirit he sent to sanctify man and keep him above sin forever.

So when the Spirit of God enters a place, order enters that place, chaos disappears,
The dead come to life, the lame start to walk, and the impossible becomes possible.

In the next five days, light comes into every dark situation, and the will of God is established by his Spirit.

Prayer Point:
Over the next five days, I declare order in every aspect of my life. From my walk with God to every carnal part, the light of God shines in the darkness.
