Round the Clock
Ecclesiastes 9:11
We are currently 4 months into the year and you probably have questions about how exactly you are meant to do about your God-given assignments or your career. How do I go from point A to point B? How do I know what to do?
I’d have you know that one of the biggest advantages of a believer’s life is that we can be led. God can lead us on the steps to take, how, when and where to take them. We can be divinely led!
Acts 13:2-3
New King James Version
2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.
3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.
From this text, one thing we can learn is that it is very possible to have a clear sense of direction, specific instructions, and precise order. The Bible says that they prayed and the Holy Spirit ministered to them about what they had to do. Fortunately for you, dear believer, that same Spirit dwells on your inside! Which means that you can also know what to do!
You see, in agriculture, there are some factors one has to ensure are right before planting a seed. You must have; good soil, a healthy seed, good exposure to sunlight, and very importantly a good knowledge of the planting seasons. There are seasons in which plants are designed to grow and so even if you have the right seed and the right soil, without the right time it would all be futile.
In the same way, the leadings of God are time-specific and time-sensitive.
John 5:2-4
New King James Version
2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.
We can deduce from this text that if one were to benefit from this pool, it would take not only a desire to be healed but also precision. Why? Because the stirring of the water and the blessing was time-specific! There is a hypothetical pool that every one of us has; a time-sensitive favour that we must step into at a certain period.
So, for the question of who, when, and with whom you should start? Nobody can answer that for you, you get those types of answers in prayer and by discerning spiritual seasons. You must be tuned to the frequency of God.
Matthew 16:1-3
New King James Version
1 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.
2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’;
3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.
If what Jesus said in this text is anything to go by—and it is—we can see that the same way you can look at the sky and discern or predict the weather, so also can you discern when the times are about to change.
By discerning the times, you can prepare for them and position yourself rightly to receive from God at these times.
Two Greek words describe “time” and they are; “Chronos” and “Kairos”.
What is Chronos? Chronos is time that can be measured; sequential time. The word “Chronos” is the word from which the English word “chronology” was coined.
For instance, the Bible says in
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
New King James Version
1 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:
2 A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;
This text refers to chronological time; clock time is measured in hours, minutes, seconds, and years. But there is a problem with Chronos; it’s not always fair. And we can say this because the same writer in Ecclesiastes 3:1 writes Ecclesiastes 9:11 and he makes an observation.
Ecclesiastes 9:11
New King James Version
11 I returned and saw under the sun that— The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.
In reality, success is not always directly proportionate to effort or level of input. Thank God for hard work but more factors predict success apart from hard work
When racing on a track, the fastest person would always be first to reach the finish line but that is not the way life works.
In this verse, the writer says “but time and chance happen to them all”, which leads us to the second Greek word for time; Kairos.
Kairos is opportune time and it is qualitative. Chance makes all the difference because your life can change in an instant and at an opportune time.
Kairos is the secret behind the speed because with Chronos when you plant a seed, it might take five years but when the Bible tells us that Isaac sowed in a land and reaped a hundredfold in one year, that is Kairos! When you’re walking in Kairos, everything you’ve been doing before yields extraordinary results.
Hence, dear believer, watch out for your Kairos. Prayerfully discern supernatural seasons and prayerfully prepare for them. Take prophecies serious and walk in them.
Kairos is your God-given and opportune time, don’t miss it!
Prayer Point:
I discern spiritual seasons. I am sensitive enough to discern my Kairos moment, and until then I build up my Chronos. I prepare myself to receive all you have in store for me!
