Sadly we couldn’t start yesterday but it’s not too late to kick off on the instructions we received.

We ended last week with a blast talking about Gush. How we can stir up the spirit inside of us to produce results for every situation.

We said as believers there is a supernatural force in us, that is the power of the Holy Ghost, and that power can be stirred up to a point of physical influence as the Apostle Paul says. That influence is the gush we are speaking about.

This week we want to stir up the power of the Holy Ghost and give direction to it.

Are you ready for an overflow?!

There is an interesting story we all heard as kids. That story is so important that when you realize what I am speaking about you would Immediately see where I am going.

Joshua 6:1-5

New King James Version

1 Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in.

2 And the LORD said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.

3 You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days.

4 And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.

5 It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”

What is it about the singing of men that can cause a wall to fall flat?

Joshua 6:20

New King James Version

20 So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

In ancient warfare such cities were either taken by assault or surrounded and the people starved into submission.

However, the strategy to conquer the city of Jericho was unique in two ways.

1. The strategy was laid out by God Himself:

You might realize how praying and waiting would cause your Jericho wall to fall. But if the Lord has given an instruction to fast, pray and be expectant, do so and have Faith.

2. The strategy was a seemingly foolish plan, but in that plan was the power of God manifest. The  faith of the people activated it.

Two thing I want you to focus on today:

1. The power of prayer, fasting and the Holy Ghost

2. Faith

The role of prayer and fasting cannot be overemphasized as you wait on God to ‘cause your Jericho to fall’. Prayer and fasting is an act of consecration where we starve the flesh and feed the spirit. It shows how much we’re expectant for something while simultaneously waiting on God to receive strength.

Isaiah 40:31

New King James Version

31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Secondly, Faith.

The Believer may not be able to achieve anything without faith. The very fact we are called ‘Believers’ means there is something we have faith in and this is the message of the Gospel. In the same vein, while we wait on God to meet our expectations, we must do so with faith. Knowing that He is able to meet our every need.

Mark 11:22-24

New King James Version

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.

23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

Matthew 21:22

New King James Version

22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

Luke 1:37

King James Version

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

As we wait on God in this season of prayer and fasting, do so with faith knowing that he is willing and able to meet our expectations.

Conclusively, as we wait on God, we must never forget the role of the power of the Spirit. That when we pray, we can tap into that endless reserve of power that is in the believer. We can stir up power by the spirit till there’s an overflow, a gush of the power of the Holy Ghost! Whether it’s a healing, a long-standing issue, strength, or a word in season that we need, as we pray we make potential power kinetic and give direction to the power of the Holy Ghost to address every need!

Prayer Point:

Lord, as we wait on you in this season of prayer and fasting, help us to do so with great faith. As we stir up the power of the Holy Ghost in us to meet and supersede our expectations in this season. Let testimonies abound in Jesus’ name!
