Today, as we continue to wait on the Lord, we will be exploring another biblical strategy for waiting on God. Yesterday we mentioned three biblical strategies for waiting on God:
⁃ Importunity in prayer.
⁃ Prophetic declarations.
⁃ Rejoicing.
Today, our focus is on prophetic declarations. Have you ever waited so long for something that you began to doubt whether it would happen at all? One thing about waiting is that the devil would try to use this period as an opportunity to plant doubt in the minds of believers, but one easy way to keep your mind where it needs to be is with your words!
Luke 4:5-8
New King James Version
5 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.
7 Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”
8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’
It’s very easy to assume that the temptation of Jesus happened physically. But it happened where most temptations happen- in the mind! A good pointer to this is that the Bible speaks about Jesus being taken to a high mountain where he was shown all the kingdoms of the world and for this to have happened physically such a mountain must exist. Unfortunately, there is no such mountain from which all the kingdoms of the world are visible. Hence we can conclude that this temptation was in the mind.
Something we should notice is that although these temptations were happening in the mind, Jesus’ responses were with his words. He spoke them out. This is a great example of how when thoughts contrary to God’s word pop into your mind, it is not enough to shake your head and pretend it never happened. You must speak!
Proverbs 18:21
New King James Version
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
The words we speak carry more power than we give them credit for. Words birthed the very world we live in and knowing that that power kind of power is present in the believer, we would be purposeful about the words we speak.
Our words have the power to direct our thoughts. Just like Jesus, you don’t shake off thoughts with thoughts you do so with words. So even when waiting on God, we must declare the things that we want to see. It helps to promote faith and our words have the power to produce results.
Mark 11:22-23
New King James Version
22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.
23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
Jesus said to have faith in God but not just that. He also said, “Whoever SAYS to this mountain”. Your speech can promote faith and your speech proceeds from faith. The Bible says when you speak to a mountain you will have what you say.
As you wait on God, continue to speak the things you’re expecting, and continue to make faith declarations. You will have what you say! Remember that your words are not mere speech, they carry power, the power of God follows your words, and when you make those declarations you are speaking in the authority you have as a son of God!
As you wait, declare prophetically that you have what you say! Believe it and speak it. Those things that you’re expecting, those things you’re praying about declare that you have them. When doubt creeps in speak! When you pray speak the things into fruition! Utilize the power in your words and declare.
Prayer Point:
I declare that as I wait, I have what I say! My words carry power and I use them.
