Over the next few days, we would be learning about how to hear from God. When it comes to hearing from God, there is a certain question that comes to mind and it is,
‘’Is it really possible for me to hear God when he speaks to me?’’ Or “ Can I hear from God?”

We would allow scripture to answer these questions for us. Do you know that God caused a bush to burn and not be consumed to catch the attention of a man in order to speak to him? (Exodus 3:2-5) Do you also know that God spoke through a donkey just to communicate his message to a man? (Numbers 22:28) These aren’t just fables, these are real men and a real God who went to these great lengths to communicate with man.

Are you still in doubt as to whether God can speak to you or not? If you aren’t, that’s great! If you are, keep reading and you’ll learn more about why it is now possible for you to hear God clearly!

First, you must be convinced that God is a master communicator so He knows exactly how to speak to you in a manner that you would hear. It is also necessary that you are aware that being led of God is not alien or impossible to the believer because of the Spirit of God that dwells within.

Romans 8:14

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

This is a scripture that teaches us about how God leads us and while it has widely been interpreted as a step by step and day to day kind of leading, when we read in context we get a better picture of what the Apostle Paul was trying to say here.

Romans 8:12-14

King James Version

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

The preceding verses show that this scripture is not about the leading for choosing between two people for a spouse or two jobs. Even more, this is talking about the leading we received at salvation by the Spirit of God from death to life. From the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light! You must acknowledge this. You became child of God because you were led by God into salvation. This is the first leading you enjoyed as child of God. You must be conscious that this leading that has given you access to the Father and gives you an assurance of eternal life happened by the Spirit of God . That Spirit has now made you his dwelling place!

With this knowledge, how much more do you think God would be willing lead you when it comes to the day to day leadings of your life? By that same Spirit would God not speak to you?

Now that we have established that God is always willing to lead us and how he does that, it is safe to say that every believer can hear from God. It has been made possible by the Holy Spirit! Glory to God! It means that you never have to doubt whether you can hear God or be led by him again. God is now at work in you, keeping you in step with his will and desires for your life.

Ezekiel 36:26-27

26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

This prophecy has now been fufilled. You received a new heart, a new spirit and God put his Spirit within you! This is the game changer. You must realize that there is a new mechanism at work in you causing you to do the things that are aligned with God’s desires for your life. The Sprit of God is causing you to be in step with all that God has for your life! God is now at work in you by his spirit leading you and guiding you, step by step.

Philippians 2:13

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

We see that right from the process of salvation, God was the one working, from start to finish, God was at work and after you got saved, he didn’t stop. He is at work in you by his Spirit. You must learn to acknowledge that God is working even in the little things. Many times, we are default-wired to wait for God to speak to us in an audible voice or in more dramatic ways and while God can, we must be careful not to put God in a box. Don’t focus on the spectacular so much that we miss out on the supernatural in our day to day life.

You can’t be quick to ignore the nudges of your heart or ideas you have anymore because there’s a new spirit at work in you. If you pay attention, you will find it in the little things. You would find that you feel a nudge to apologize after a misunderstanding or to gift someone or to share the gospel with someone. You could also find that you have certain zeal, certain passions or an unusual drive for particular things that are on the heart of God. These are the leadings of the Spirit.

Finally, you have been led all along by this master communicator! Don’t look too far to hear from God. Look within. Build your convictions on the knowledge that you can now hear from God by his Spirit within you. No one teaches an eagle how to fly, they just know how to instinctively. It’s the same way you must understand hearing from God. It is possible because you are now born of the Spirit.
