Vantage: Led by Prophecy
Isaiah 55:11
But you’re different—you’ve been handed a map and a compass by someone who’s already travelled this road and knows every twist and turn. This isn’t just any map, either. It’s foolproof because the one who made it does not make mistakes.
This is exactly the case for the believer as we prepare to step into a new year. This is what we mean by vantage—it’s the unique perspective God provides, giving us a bird’s-eye view of the terrain before we even begin. It’s like standing on top of a tall building and seeing the entire landscape clearly. That’s the advantage we have as believers: the ability to see beyond what’s visible to the natural eye, to perceive what God is doing, and to align with His plan for us.
Consider the passage in:
Genesis 15:18-21
New King James Version
18 On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: ‘To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—
19 the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites,
20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
Here, we see the Lord speaking to Abram (later called Abraham), a man living as a stranger in a foreign land and the Bible tells us that God promises to give him and his descendants the very land on which he stood—stretching as far as the eye could see.
The story doesn’t even stop here because from that moment in Genesis, God’s commitment to His Word never wavered. This same promise threads its way through Scripture, from Abraham to Moses, as God faithfully guides His people toward its fulfilment.
Exodus 3:7-8
New King James Version
7 And the LORD said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.
8 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.
God remained steadfast in His plan, rescuing the children of Israel with His mighty hand and leading them to the land He had promised. Yet, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. The Israelites fought several battles and had obstacles to overcome. But in the end, the Bible provides to us an account in the book of Joshua:
Joshua 21:43-45
New King James Version
43 So the LORD gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it.
44 The LORD gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.
45 Not a word failed of any good thing which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.
This is a powerful reminder for us as believers: we serve a God who leads us by prophecy, and His words never fail. Every promise He has spoken has come to pass as at this time, and this truth should provide us with a sense of advantage as we prepare for the new year.
For every task God has assigned to us, and every challenge that would come, we can face them with confidence because we are operating from a place of victory. We have the assurance that the One who knows the end from the beginning is leading us.
This is a different way to enter into the new year. It allows us to navigate each phase with certainty, having in mind that we are guided by a God who knows all that is to come. As believers, this sets us apart. We don’t have to wander misguided or unguided; we can step into the new year with clarity and direction, anchored by the promises of God.
As believers, our vantage point comes from the prophetic leadership of God. How He leads His people in ways that reveal what lies ahead, months in advance.
We see that right from the very beginning, God has consistently demonstrated the power that lies in His word. When He created the world, He spoke, and it came into being. This should remind us never to take God’s words lightly. They carry the power to shape our lives and guide us into His purposes for the new year.
Isaiah 55:11
New King James Version
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
There is no limit to the potency of God’s Word. It must and has always accomplished His purpose. However, its impact in our lives depends on the access we grant to Him. That as powerful and sovereign as He is, God has chosen to work within the boundaries of our willingness and alignment. This means He will not impose His will on us; He acts in partnership with our readiness to receive and obey.
The Bible provides precedent for this in:
Psalm 78:41-42
New King James Version
41 Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel.
42 They did not remember His power: The day when He redeemed them from the enemy.
The children of Israel limited God’s work in their lives because they failed to trust Him and forgot His mighty deeds. But dear believer, that is not your story! You remember the great and beautiful things He has done in the past, and you believe Him for what is to come.
As long as God has spoken it, He will accomplish it. This should change your perspective on how much advantage you have as you prepare for the new year.
Rely on God’s Word to guide you, knowing that He is utterly committed to His plan. Our role is to align ourselves with Him and partner with His purpose until we see His promises fulfilled in our lives.
Let’s close with this:
Numbers 23:19
New King James Version
19 God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
This is the God we serve—He is faithful, true, and unchanging. His Word never fails, and His promises are sure.
Prayer Point
Today, I remember the advantage I have in God, I remember that I serve a God that leads by prophecy and as long as He can say it, he will do it. I go into the new year doing all that the Lord has asked me to do and I do them boldly because I know He is committed to His every word and would back me up.
