Made For Worship: God's Plan For Devotion
Revelation 4:10-11
The Old Testament reveals the origins of the world, humanity, sin, and God’s relationship with mankind, offering a profound understanding of His character. Genesis, as the book of beginnings, provides the foundation for much of what is seen throughout Scripture.
Genesis 1:27-28
New King James Version
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 2:15
New King James Version
15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
The Hebrew word for man here is Adam which means mankind. The Bible says mankind was created in the image of God which in every sense, distinguishes mankind from every other creation because only mankind was created in God’s image. He created man and gave us a responsibility— to have dominion and to tend to the garden.
This goes to show that God wanted an ideal relationship with man and Eden represents this ideal: a life of connection, worship, obedience, communion, and service to God.
Genesis 3:8
New King James Version
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
From this text, we can see that God didn’t create man to have a tyrannical rule over us, he desired communion and fellowship with man. The Bible says here: “He came in the cool of the day to the garden” to commune with man, this expresses to us that God desired fellowship and communion with Adam and Eve in the garden.
Also, from man’s point of view, in that perfect environment—Eden—devotion, and consecration came naturally. Obedience and reverence were never meant to be a struggle for us; it is the effortless expression of humanity’s purpose in alignment with God’s design.
The first thing we must understand about creation and its Creator is the nature of the Creator Himself. When creation encounters its Creator, the immediate and natural response is worship.
Let’s use a scripture to explain this;
Revelation 4:10-11
New King James Version
10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
11 “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”
Now, one important characteristic of God is that He is holy. This means that God is separate, unique and in a class of his own, hence, if anything or anyone comes in contact with him, the direct response is always worship.
This is exemplified by the twenty-four elders in the heavenly throne room. With every movement, they are so deeply focused and engrossed in God’s presence that worship flows effortlessly from them.
And one thing we learn from their worship is their declaration: “You are worthy, O Lord.”
Why is God worthy? Because everything He created, He created for His pleasure. Everything, including mankind, was made to bring Him delight. Humanity was designed for worship—to seek God with all our hearts, to love Him deeply, and to obey His will.
This is why worship, communion, and obedience are not just aspects of our existence—they are the essence of it. Which means that our devotion to God is at the centre of our existence as humans. It is the reason we were created: to live in communion with God, to worship Him, and to serve Him wholeheartedly.
At one time, man fell and brought a separation between us and our maker but throughout the history of humanity, God never stopped putting things in place to bring about His plan and now we have been brought back in perfect communion with God in Christ.
God’s plan from the beginning has always been to separate humanity unto Himself. This separation is not a limitation but an invitation to live in His presence, fulfil His purpose, and enjoy the fullness of life in Him.
Hence, we are to live in and continue to walk in devotion, ensuring that our lives reflect His glory and His eternal plan for us.
Prayer Point
Lord, I recognize the reason I was created was to be separate to and for you. Help me live daily with this consciousness, that my life is for your worship and your use.
