Leaps & Bounds: When God Calls A Meeting
Acts 1:8
Psalm 19:1-2
New King James Version
2 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.
The greatest people you know may have fleets of cars, and huge assets that show their worth but scripture talks about God and says that the heavens declare his glory! That is, the beauty and the greatness of creation itself speak of his glory. They are a testament to his greatness, his awesomeness, and his power.
The children of Israel witnessed firsthand what the power of God could do, their entire history as a people is full of numerous signs and wonders worked by his hand. They were carried from slavery to a promised land by a pillar of cloud and of fire, they witnessed the Red Sea divide into two, watching an aquarium side by side, they saw manna fall from heaven when they needed food, they saw all of these great things and then one day God says to Moses to gather everyone to him for a meeting.
Exodus 19:9
New King James Version
9 And the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever.” So Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.
You can imagine them, receiving this message that the same God that brought them out of slavery by his power and his glory, is calling for a meeting with them. They would have thought that this couldn’t be any causal meeting, especially considering their history with him. There must have been something to expect and the reason he called this meeting with them was to communicate his word to them. This was the encounter where they received the commandments of God; the oracles of God. This already goes to show you that whenever God calls a meeting, there’s something to expect, you can’t come casually if you know who you are coming to meet, that’s why He told Moses to prepare the people.
Exodus 19:10
New King James Version
10 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes.
He told them to wash their clothes, to consecrate themselves because the presence of God was going to come down on Mount Sinai. It was a training to not take the presence of God lightly, but to honor his presence enough, to come ready and prepared to receive from him.
And exactly one week from now, we would be having our meeting with the LORD, our encounter with the LORD, at Leaps and Bounds. It’s not just a cause for excitement, it’s a cause for much preparation and consecration to the LORD. We must take heed to ourselves, by giving ourselves to more of God than ever before. We must respond like people who understand who it is that called us for a meeting, we must respond like people that know what the value of a meeting with God. Some of us might have to take a leave from work, from school just to make it and it’s totally worth it because you are going to meet with your God.
There’s another example in the New Testament where we see God call a meeting,
Luke 24:49
New King James Version
49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
Before Jesus ascends he tells his disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they are endued with power. The disciples must have known as well that if the risen Jesus, asked them to wait in Jerusalem, it was for a reason, there was in fact something to look forward to, something to prepare for, something to receive. Because they had such an expectation towards this meeting, that power would come on them as they meet with the LORD, they gave themselves to much prayer, continuing steadfastly in one accord praying and preparing to receive what Christ promised them.
This is way to respond to a meeting with God, to stay preparing. These people might have legitimate excuses to not have been part of the preparation, but all 120 of them knew that there was something that was coming to them, and they prepared themselves for it.
When God calls a meeting there’s something to expect, the disciples had seen power before, they had even worked in power before now, but when Jesus said wait, it meant there was something more. It means he was inviting them into more. This is the same way for you, in a few days God has set a meeting day with you, to invite you to a deeper experience with him. For the disciples after that meeting, the results they had in ministry were incomparable to when they hadn’t received his power.
Well, we already have the Holy Ghost in us and his power too, and God is still gathering us together, it is safe to expect that he has something in mind for us, for you. There’s something he wants to do in us that will enable see more results in various aspects of our lives, In ministry, in your devotion, it’s truly a time for leaps and bounds, incremental speed in the things of God. Imagine meeting the person who can give you exactly what you need right now in your life, your ministry, well that person has called you hither, but will you respond? Will you consecrate yourself? Will you prepare like you are coming to meet with God Almighty?
This week give it your absolute best in preparation. Set the alarms, call your brothers to keep you accountable, form groups of people to pray and prepare, and don’t leave anything to chance. Men who met with God in scripture didn’t leave anything to chance, they took heed to themselves and spent time preparing, and they received from God. This is your week to prepare, this is your time to set your heart right to receive from God
Prayer Point:
Father! Throughout this week, I adequately prepare myself to meet with you. I don’t leave it to chance, I take heed to myself! Let this meeting, awaken me onto more in you, let me receive the touch of your spirit!
