Psalm 119 vs 105
New King James Version
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
David here says your word is a lamp to guide my feet and light to my path.

Have you ever tried walking along a path lined with bushes at night? You are most likely scared of what could be walking out of the bush, but when light comes on, there’s this confidence that becomes obvious in the steps you take. Because you know the light reveals every danger in the path and shines on the best path to step on.

This is the same importance and relief David places on the word. That without the word of God, his way is dark. He can’t see where to go. He would miss the way because there’s nothing to lead him.

It’s like walking on an unknown or new path, with no direction; no light to guide your steps. It leaves one confused and lost in the end.

2 Timothy 3:16
New King James Version
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Greek word for profitable there is the word “Ophilemus”, which means “Advantageous”. That’s to say, as believers, we get our way of life from the scriptures. How to live, who to be, and how to respond in situations.

Matthew 2:3-6
New King James Version
3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

5 So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ‘

6 But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’

Even the King Herod knew to look to the word when he was going to know the exact place Jesus was born. We see even pagan kings look to the book for direction. For the way to go.

As believers, we must never be passive about divine direction. We are to actively seek God’s guidance not only in the word but also through prayer. Being conscious that we are lost without it.
We see examples of men all through scriptures that never took a step without going to seek God in prayers.

1. Moses
Exodus 15:25
New King James Version
25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested the

Exodus 17 vs 4
New King James Version
4 So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!”

These scriptures are two out of many places in the journey of the Israelites under Moses’ leadership, where he went to God for what to do next. Moses hardly relied on his own understanding and ways. He would always go back to the place of prayer to ask God “What next, what should I do, where do I go”
It’s almost impossible for a believer who’s consistent in prayer and grounded in the word to be in error; to be confused or lost.
In prayer God speaks, through His word He guides, through His Spirit, you remember.
Another example of men who would always seek God’s face for guidance is:

2. David
1 Samuel 23 vs 2
New King James Version
2 Therefore David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” And the Lord said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah.”

I Samuel‬ ‭30‬:‭8‬ ‭
New King James Version
8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”

These two scriptures again show a man who didn’t, in critical times, rely on his own understanding. It says he “inquired of God”. He asked God for the next step.
‭How do you know what task to work on at work? Your boss probably talks to the line manager and then the line manager talks to you. Or maybe you get instructions from your boss directly, but one thing, if these people stop communicating, you stop getting what to do, and your time in that office draws to an end.
How much more believers, whose whole sustenance and way of life is from the one who created us. A man who wants to be always aligned with God’s plan and purpose must be in constant communication with the one who leads. Always studying the word, always praying, always seeking God’s guidance; giving Him something to work with as regards leading.

Divine leading is your advantage, because you have a God who’s willing to lead you more than you are willing to be led. But you will not just sleep all week and expect to be led by God. That’s how men of error are birthed.

So dear believer, I charge you today that your communication with the one who leads is one that is consistent and constant. Not being okay with taking a step without God’s approval.

Prayer Point
Lord, as I pray now, I consistently seek your leading in everything I do. I study the word more than ever before. I pray more than ever before, till I become a man who is step by step in God’s plan and purpose.
