Walking with Power: Men who carry Power

Mark 16:17-18

The most dangerous lie the enemy has convinced some believers to believe is that the supernatural power of God was only for the first-century believers. This deception has produced a generation of Christians who admire the miraculous works of the apostles from a distance, as if those demonstrations of God’s power were museum pieces to be observed rather than present realities to be experienced.

The gifts of the Spirit and the power of God have not ceased in our day. This is not ancient history or something reserved for a select few. It is very much available for every believer without exception, and it is absolutely necessary for the work God has called us to accomplish. Yet too many Christians have been deceived into believing that the supernatural power of God was only for the early church, as if Jesus’ promise somehow expired with the apostles.

Everything that was possible for the early church is still very much our reality today. God has not changed, His power has not diminished, and His desire to work through His people remains the same.

Mark 16:17-18
New King James Version
17 “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Notice Jesus didn’t say “these signs followed those who believed back then.” He said, “these signs WILL follow those who believe.” Present tense.

Look at what Jesus told His disciples before His ascension:
Acts 1:8
New King James Version
8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

This promise wasn’t just for the twelve disciples; it was for witnesses “to the end of the earth.” That includes you. That includes this generation. The same Holy Spirit power that enabled Peter to heal the lame man, that empowered Stephen to work great wonders, that same power through which Paul raised the dead — that same power is available to you today.

The authority and power of a believer is a part of his new identity and reality in Christ. Anyone who believes or claims that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are no longer in operation today is mistaken.

Before His ascension into heaven, Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them.

Every believer, without exception, can and should express the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This same Spirit dwells in you today. You have not been called to a powerless Christianity, but to a life that reflects the authority of Jesus Himself. The question is not whether you carry power—it is whether you are conscious of it and bold enough to use it.

In the book of Acts, every single one of the believers who were gathered in one accord, waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit, spoke in new tongues. The Bible says that all were filled with the Holy Spirit. No one was left out.

Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭
New King James Version
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Everything that the early church did through the Spirit can still be done today, and even much more.
But the question now is if we know the importance of the workings and gifts of the spirit.

One important purpose of spiritual gifts in the New Testament was for exhorting, edification and comfort of the church, the body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 14:4
New King James Version
4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

The structure of the New Testament church is that every joint supplies. We can all edify each other because the Spirit is available to every believer in the church.

Another purpose of spiritual gifts is for witnessing the gospel to the ends of the earth. As we read in Acts 1:8, the power of the Holy Spirit that you have received is for you to be witness for Jesus, to go out and let the whole world know that there is salvation for them.

The early church understood something that we tend to forget: the work of God requires the power of God. The men of the early church didn’t try to win souls through clever arguments alone or build the church through human wisdom and marketing strategies. They carried supernatural power that authenticated their message and demonstrated God’s reality to a lost world through the signs and wonders wrought by their hands.

Hence, having spiritual gifts is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Every believer must be expressive. If you don’t desire it, you are wrong. You are to go out of our way to want to function in the gifts of the spirit.

Whatever you see in the Word, you can do. The Gospel and welfare of your brothers and sisters in Christ depend on it. You are to chase after it.

There are souls at stake that require you to carry out your work for God with this power accompanying the words you preach. People are dying, families are broken, sickness is ravaging communities, and demonic oppression is real.

1 Corinthians 2:4
New King James Version
4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.

Paul’s ministry wasn’t built on eloquent sermons or impressive credentials. It was built on the demonstration of God’s power. When he spoke about healing, people were healed. When he preached about deliverance, demons fled. When he declared God’s provision, supernatural supply followed.

This is your inheritance as a believer. This is your calling as a member of God’s kingdom. You are not meant to work for God in your own strength, relying on natural abilities and human methods. You are meant to be a carrier of His power, a vessel through which He demonstrates His reality on the earth.

Joel 2:28
New King James Version
28 And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.”

God promised to pour out His Spirit on “all flesh” — not just pastors, not just missionaries, not just the “super spiritual.” Every believer is called to operate in the gifts of the Spirit and carry the power of God.

As long as you believe, you can walk in this same power that you read about in the Bible. It is for you too.

Stop settling for less. Stop trying to do God’s work with human effort alone. You were never meant to cut down spiritual trees with butter knives when God has given you access to supernatural power that can move mountains.
Remain conscious of this truth and stir up the supernatural power of God in your life. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. The same power that healed the sick and raised the dead is available to you.

Don’t just read/hear about God’s power — carry it, demonstrate it, and watch as He confirms His word with signs following.

Prayer Point
Lord, I refuse to settle for less. As I pray now, I stir up the gifts You’ve placed within me. Let Your supernatural power flow through my life to reach the souls that are at stake. Make me a carrier of Your power, and let signs and wonders follow as I step out.
