There are two categories of gym-goers: those who go for one week and expect to have defined muscles and a six-pack, and those who go every other day until they get the results they seek. The difference is not in the gym equipment, but in the consistency.

Consistency is essential for seeing results from many of your life’s pursuits. This principle is valid when it comes to Bible study. Today, we’ll look at some practical techniques to improve consistency in Bible study.

Psalms‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬
New King James Version
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Studying occasionally won’t build you up to be the man in Christ you need to be. So you need a consistent routine for Bible study.

David understood this concept and expressed the kind of consistency to aim for when approaching God’s Word- ‘day and night’. Now, how do you build consistency?

First, joining a local church where the Bible is taught effectively is one of the most crucial pieces of advice. Having a teacher who rightly divides the Word gives you the right lens to study the Bible, which makes this a basic yet frequently ignored principle. You must also pay attention and cultivate a personal interest for this to be fruitful.

Acts 17:11
New King James Version
11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

The Bible records the Bereans who listened eagerly to Paul’s message and searched the Scriptures themselves to learn the truth. You must be interested! Otherwise, you won’t learn much from the Word.

There is also an example of a similar occurrence in Nehemiah 8. Ezra was reading the law to the children of Israel and everyone, including children, paid rapt attention.

Establishing routines is the second tip for consistency. Select a specific Scripture to study, along with a time and location. You can also link it to other lifestyle decisions and habits such as deciding that you won’t browse Instagram or any other social media platform until you have finished your Bible study.

Third is reminding yourself of the benefits of consistent Bible study and setting attainable goals. Knowing the benefits of consistent Bible study helps you stay motivated. However, setting attainable goals is essential. Avoid taking on more than you can handle. If it is one chapter a day, study it attentively and adhere to it strictly. You can begin to increase the number of chapters you study as the days go by.

Another tip is a Bible study partner that can help you to be consistent.

Ecclesiastes 4:9
New King James Version
9 Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor.

Scripture teaches that two people (working on anything) are better off than one. This is especially important on days when you don’t feel like studying or are getting behind on your goals. A companion can help lift you up and get you back on track. Find a good Bible study partner, talk about your goals, and learn to be transparent about your progress.

Finally, as we discussed yesterday, the tools you utilize can greatly impact your Bible study experience. A concordance, access to numerous Bible editions, and even theological commentary can help you study the Bible more effectively. When you enjoy the process, you are more likely to stick with it.

Remember, the only way to know God is through His Word. Make it a priority to read the Scriptures on a regular basis, and keep in mind that God rewards those who seek Him diligently. Use these approaches and see how your Bible study experience improves.
