Through this week, we have learned the importance of diligently studying the Bible. We’ve discovered how to stay consistent and found ways to make Bible study easier. To conclude, we will discuss the significance of honouring the Word.

To honour the Word is to value it, commit to its teachings, and live by it.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
New King James Version
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Bible, inspired by God, contains everything a believer needs to grow and be perfect for every situation. We must understand that this Word is God’s message to us. Therefore, we must honour it by obeying its teachings.

Every verse of Scripture serves a purpose: to teach us how to live as believers, correct us when we go astray, provide evidence for our faith, and train us in righteousness. The Scriptures did not come about randomly; they were inspired by God, and for this reason, His Word can be fully trusted.

James 1:22-25
New King James Version
22 But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

23 For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;

24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Honouring the Word is not just about memorizing Scripture or reading it even though that is important. It is about allowing the Word of God to take root in our hearts and change us from the inside out. Hearing the Word and vowing to improve is one thing . But true honour is reflected in our actions.

Don’t be like the man who looks into a mirror, only to forget his appearance moments later. Let the Word transform you. In Scripture, you learn not only what God wants you to become but also who you truly are. We must humble ourselves and allow it to transform us.

Psalm 119:105
New King James Version
105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

The psalmist likens the Word of God to a guiding light, showing the way to go. Light provides clarity, and without it, we may stumble or lose our way. In the same way, with God’s Word as our guide. We can trust that we will be lead on the right path. Even when the journey seems difficult, or when the road ahead is unclear, we can choose to honour the Word knowing it will keep us on course.

Psalm 138:2
New King James Version
2 I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your Word above all Your name.

This verse speaks volumes about the value God places on His Word. The Bible tells us that God honours His Word above His name. If the Creator of the universe esteems His Word so highly, how much more should we revere it? We cannot afford to approach Scripture with anything less than utmost respect and reverence. This passage affirms the dependability and power of every word in the Bible.

This is a call to approach Scripture with reverence both in our study and application of it. As you go about your study of the Word, remember that all you study must lead to living a life that is truly submitted to the Lord.

Prayer Point
Heavenly Father, help me to honour Your Word in my heart and in my actions. I pray that your Word takes root in me and transforms me from the inside out.
