Devotion Code: Lessons From the Life of Men Set Apart to God
Genesis 12:1-3
Similarly, when a man is separated unto God, he is consecrated, set apart to fulfil God’s divine purpose, reflecting His glory in ways that ordinary pursuits cannot.
Yesterday, we reflected on God’s plan from the beginning: that man would be consecrated to Him, separated for His will and purpose. It has always been God’s idea that men be called for His will to be vessels to show His glory on earth.
Today, we will delve into the lives of men in Scripture who embraced this calling, men who surrendered fully to God’s will and demonstrated that consecration is a continuous journey of commitment and devotion to His cause.
Throughout Scripture, God has called men who not only answered His call but willingly gave themselves to His purpose. God desires to use men, but the question remains: are you ready to consecrate yourself, give your all and be separated unto God? These men should serve as examples to us.
Let’s take a look at the Iives of these men
1. Abraham
Genesis 12:1-3
New King James Version
1 Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
God promised to make Abraham a father of many nations, to bless him and bless families of the world through Him. However, receiving this promise required stepping out of the familiar. Abraham had to leave his comfort zone, family, and homeland like many of us would have to do.
His obedience demonstrated that consecration involves simple faith and trust in God’s word, even when the path is unclear or uncomfortable.
Abraham teaches us that consecration requires sacrifice and a total willingness to do God’s will.
2. Moses
In Exodus 3, God called Moses when he had the encounter with the burning bush. God had preserved his life as a baby and went on to place him in the house of Pharoah. Though Moses initially doubted his ability due to his lack of eloquence, he eventually surrendered to God’s call.
His humility and obedience showed that consecration means relying on God despite our weaknesses, trusting that He would back those He sends.
Moses example shows us how that God is not afraid our weakness, we are made sufficient in Him. So don’t let fear cripple the work of God in your life. It’s time to submit wholeheartedly.
3. David
1 Samuel 16:7
New King James Version
7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
David, a man after God’s own heart, was someone who understood consecration through His unwavering devotion, repentance trust in God.
As a young shepherd, he trusted God so much to defeat Goliath that he abandoned his armour and went to battle with a sling and a stone. The whole of his life depicted one who was ready and sold out to the will of God.
Even in seemingly contradicting situations, he still showed that he was set apart to God.
He didn’t look like much but he went all the way and recognized that all he needed to do was to keep walking with God and staying in the confines of His will.
4. Joseph
The life of Joseph also exemplified consecration, unwavering trust and faith especially in trials, showed how set apart he was to the will of God. He discerned what God was doing from a very young age and decided to run with it, to stay committed, trusting the Lord above all.
His trials refined his character and made him more dependent on God.
The lives of these men show how to be totally sold out to God, it requires being set apart, trust, total surrender, to continually seek the face of God.
As you go about your day, take a moment to examine yourself. Does your life align with who you have been called to be? Are you willing and ready to follow God’s instructions and remain consecrated for His will?
Remember, all it takes is simple faith and obedience, and this can be your life.
