Daniel 6:3

For someone who loves watching cooking shows, one thing that I know for sure is that when a master chef is working, every movement is precise, every ingredient measured, and the final dish is a masterpiece. But what if excellence wasn’t just for the culinary world? What if we can cultivate the same dedication and skill in every aspect of our lives, guided by our faith?

Excellence is the quality of being outstanding. The idea that this definition of excellence must give you is something that is well done, something that you give all your time and energy to get the best possible result.

There is a standard in God and every assignment you have been given must be delivered with excellence.

2 Timothy 2:15

New King James Version

15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Although this verse of scripture talks about being diligent in studying the word of God, Apostle Paul instructed Timothy to be diligent so he would be approved by God. Anything that you do for God must be done according to His standards and approval.

Daniel 6:3

New King James Version

3 Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.

Although Daniel was in a foreign land, he carried out every assignment diligently and he excelled at it with the help of the spirit. He wasn’t lazy and the king wanted to put him above everything even though he was a foreigner.

You cannot be mediocre in carrying out your assignments. You have to put in the work and be excellent at it. You cannot serve God or do your God-given assignment on your terms.

Colossians 3:23

New King James Version

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,

This verse helps you realize that excellence is about giving your all to all you do because, at the end of the day, you are serving Christ and not trying to get approval from others. Every action you take, whether they are your daily activities, career goals, or in service to God, is an offering to God. Every task, no matter how simple deserves all your time and effort. Excellence takes time and effort.

To properly balance this, excellence does not mean perfection. It is about diligence, dedication, growth, and doing God’s bidding at every turn.

Prayer Point:

Dear Lord, give me the zeal, tenacity, and discernment to strive for excellence in your service.
