Influencing Culture: Carriers Of Kingdom Culture
Romans 12:2
These past few days, you have been learning about how as a believer you are not an ordinary person just walking about life without purpose but an appointed representative of a heavenly kingdom and just as ambassadors carry the full authority of their nation into foreign territories, you carry the presence and power of Christ into every space you occupy.
Your primary duty as an ambassador of God is to represent the interests of God’s kingdom wherever you go.
Have you ever heard the phrase “Change begins with you”? This simply means that the kind of change or result you want to see in your environment starts from within you.
To be a representative of God, you must first understand who you are and what you have been called to do. Your mind must be renewed.
Apostle Paul in his letter to the Church at Rome said:
Romans 12:2
New King James Version
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Before you can influence the world around you for Christ you must reshape and renew your mind with the truth of God’s word. An ambassador who forgets which kingdom they serve quickly becomes ineffective.
Similarly, when we allow our thinking to be shaped by the values and patterns of this world rather than by God’s word, we easily compromise our heavenly mandate.
John 15:16
New King James Version
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
An ambassador is someone appointed, trained, and sent with a clear understanding of their home country’s values and objectives and just as an earthly ambassador must understand the values and objectives of their home country, you as an ambassador of God’s kingdom must understand God’s objectives.
You must be able to see the world through the lens of God in order to represent Him. You are in a world that stands in opposition to Christ and it is important that you realise that you are standing for Christ.
The pressures of life, the patterns of society, and even personal ambitions can subtly draw you away from living in a manner worthy of your calling. Transformation for the believer is not optional; it is essential.
2 Corinthians 5:20
New King James Version
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
This is an active call to represent Christ’s interests. God literally makes His appeal to the world through you.
Ephesians 4:21-24
New King James Version
21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Every ambassador undergoes training and this training leads to a mental transformation. Apostle Paul’s instruction to the church in Romans 12:2 will make you understand that transformation is a process that must first take place inside.
It is not a one-time thing, it is a daily discipline of renewing our minds with God’s truth. You must constantly put off your old ways of thinking and actions and constantly put on the mind of Christ.
The word “renewing” in the original Greek (anakainōsis) means “to renovate or make new again.” Just as a house in a bad state must be restored, your mind which is often polluted by worldly thinking must be cleansed and aligned with God’s truth.
Some of the ways you can renew your mind are:
By Studying and Meditating on God’s Word: The Bible is God’s truth, and when we fill our minds with it, our thinking begins to change. If we neglect the Word of God, we will naturally conform to the thinking of the world. But when we immerse ourselves in Scripture, our perspectives shift to align with God’s will.
By Fixing Your Thoughts on What is True and Godly: Apostle Paul gives a clear guideline on what should fill our minds:
Philippians 4:8
New King James Version
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
What you feed your minds will shape your life. If you constantly expose yourself to negative, sinful, or faithless influences, your thinking will reflect that. But if you fix your thoughts on God’s truth, goodness, and righteousness, your mindset will be transformed.
By Walking in the Spirit: The Holy Spirit is a guide and teacher. He helps to discern truth from deception and empowers you to live according to God’s will.
John 14:26
New King James Version
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Walking in the Spirit means yielding to His leading in our daily lives, allowing Him to correct your thinking, and relying on Him for wisdom.
2 Corinthians 2:14-16
New King James Version
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us [d]diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?
When an ambassador walks into a room, they carry the culture and authority of their home country. In the same way, you must carry the atmosphere of heaven, and be a custodian of heavenly culture.
You are the vessel through which heaven’s culture invades earth. Wherever you go, you carry peace into chaos, hope into despair, and light into darkness.
Your mission is clear: you represent Christ in a broken world, calling people back to Him.
But to do this effectively, you must think and act differently from the world and your minds must be transformed by His truth.
Prayer Point
Lord, transform my mind by Your truth. Help me to think, speak, and act as Your ambassador, representing You in every area of my life and guide me in Your perfect will.
