Ministry with Power
Acts 1:8
In yesterday’s devotional, we discussed what it means to be backed by God and the privileges bestowed upon us by virtue of the Holy Spirit on our inside. Through Christ, we have received a lot of blessings, and an important one is power.
Acts 1:8
New King James Version
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Just before His ascension, Jesus spoke these words to His disciples, who had been devoted followers throughout His earthly ministry and were well-versed in doctrine. Despite their understanding of God’s Word, Christ assured them they would receive the power to be witnesses. This power would come through the Holy Spirit. Jesus understood that empowering them with the Spirit would equip them for ministry and enable them to effectively spread the gospel because power bears witness to the message of Christ.
Hebrews 2:4
New King James Version
4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?
Ministry cannot be done by sole reliance on the efforts of man, but it must be accompanied by the demonstration of God’s power through signs, wonders, and the charismatic. The Apostles were given a mandate in the great commission to take the gospel to the utmost part of the world and scripture says God bore them witness with signs and wonders. He further confirmed the authenticity of the gospel message being proclaimed. Similarly, as you spread the gospel, depend on God to work through you to impact lives.
Mark 16: 17-18
New King James Version
17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues,
18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.
Power is a redemptive commodity. It is a blood-bought commodity made available as a result of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus to all those who believe. By being saved, you can walk in power because it is part of the benefits you received through salvation and the scripture above shows the numerous ways a person can walk in power as a result of being saved.
Ephesians 3: 20
New King James Version
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
God’s power is not limited by human constraints or expectations. His power operates on a scale that far surpasses what we can comprehend or anticipate. By partnering with God, you can approach ministry with confidence because He who backs you up is All-powerful. This should encourage you to take a leap of faith with the knowledge that God can supply everything you need to fulfill your calling.
Romans 8:11
New King James Version
11 But if the spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Ephesians 1:18- 20
New King James Version
18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
19 and what is the exceeding power towards us who believe according to the working of His mighty power.
20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.
Power has been made available through Christ. Scripture assures us that the same power that raised Jesus from the grave resides within us, granting us full access. With the Holy Spirit dwelling within, our capacity expands, limitations are shattered, and we are empowered for greater works. However, having immense power within is futile if not utilized. God has given us countless gifts, but how do we use them? Are you quick to give up because for instance you tried to heal someone, and it didn’t work?
Persist, and don’t lose faith, for the salvation of souls depends on it. God has a burning desire to see men saved and filled with the knowledge of truth, and you, dear believer, play a pivotal role in this. By partnering with the Holy Spirit, you actively contribute to the salvation of souls, fulfilling God’s desire. Remember that all you need has been placed on your inside.
There are results that you cannot see if you do not partner with the Holy Ghost, pray and consecrate yourself to God’s will, and walk by faith. To maximize the fullness of the power that God has given you, you need to invest yourself in prayer, consecrate yourself, walk in faith because power is faith-dependent, and be bold because if you don’t exercise the power of God, you cannot do ministry effectively.
To be able to effectively do ministry with power you must:
- Pray: Prayer helps to strengthen your convictions and enlarge your capacity to walk in power. Through prayer, you would be able to do ministry effectively.
- Walk by faith: Power is faith dependent. They work hand-in-hand. Faith is a conduit for the power of God to flow.
- Consecration: This is very important to do ministry with power. You must set yourself apart to be able to effectively do all that God would have you do.
- Boldness: Do not let the power of God lie dormant in you. Give expression to it. Even when things don’t seem like it, don’t give up and have the courage to keep walking in boldly in the power of God.
As you go about your day, do not be afraid to walk in power because that is your reality in Christ so don’t hesitate to lay hands on the sick or pray concerning a situation.
Prayer Point:
I walk in the fullness of the power of God on my inside. I am conscious of the fact that all that I need to do ministry with power has been accorded to me and so I wield it with mastery. I partner with the Holy Spirit to see the gospel preached to the ends of the earth.
