Perfectly Whole: The Provision
1 Peter 2:24
A young girl walked into a convenience store and requested thirty cartons of beverages. While onlookers wondered how she would pay for it, she swiped her mom’s credit card at the cashier’s desk and walked out smiling.
You see, the difference between the onlookers and the young girl is knowledge.
Her confidence came from knowing she had her mom’s credit card.
Likewise, in God’s kingdom, knowledge is an advantage!
2 Peter 1:3
New King James Version
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue
In Christ, everything that pertains to life and godliness has already been given to you. But notice how it is accessed: through knowledge. Knowledge is what moves you from uncertainty to boldness.
Today, you will understand the provisions Christ has made possible for you, especially concerning your health, because there are implications to a limited understanding of the advantage you have as a believer; you must not pass by or ignore what the scripture says concerning all you’ve received in Christ.
You must understand that God is as interested in your physical and mental health as he is in your spiritual health.
3 John 1:2 says
New King James Version
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
God is not just interested in the prosperity of your soul. He wants to see your health prosper.
It is easy to think that God is only concerned about your spiritual health and cares less about your physical well-being.
But Scripture is replete with narratives where God proclaims divine health and healing over his people.
Exodus 15:26b
New King James Version
26 …For I am the LORD who heals you.
God reveals Himself to Israel as Jehovah Rapha — The Lord Who Heals.
Exodus 23:25b
New King James Version
25 …And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.
From these texts, we see God’s commitment to the physical well-being of his children.
If God were only interested in your health, that would be great! But he has gone an extra mile to do something about it.
Centuries before the birth of Jesus, Isaiah prophesied about a man, despised and rejected by his own, bruised for the iniquities of the whole world.
A man whose stripes will purchase for mankind the gift of healing.
In Isaiah 53:3-5
New King James Version
3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Hallelujah!
This man, Jesus, not only put an end to sin on the cross, but he also terminated the root of sicknesses.
Therefore, by the death of Jesus, you are not only declared free from the yoke of sin, but you are also free from this bondage called sickness.
This revealed knowledge is the foundation of divine health.
In Scripture, we see that healing is usually presented alongside forgiveness of sins.
Psalms 103:3 says
New King James Version
3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases
Disease was not in the original design of God’s creation. It is a result of the fall. When man rebelled, he was separated from God, the source of life.
Ultimately, this became an opening to the sicknesses that ravage the world today.
In salvation, not only are we saved and have a renewed heart, but our bodies can be healed of every illness.
Matthew 8:16-17
New King James Version
16 When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick
17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.”
When Jesus was still here on Earth, he not only forgave sins, but he also healed all who were sick.
And even in our present day, this doesn’t change.
Peter echoes the words of the prophet Isaiah to the church in 1 Peter 2:24:
New King James Version
24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
At first glance, there’s almost no difference between Isaiah’s prophecy and the words of Peter, but when you read it again, the past tense ‘WERE’ stands out!
And this is what makes all the difference.
Now, we’re no longer asking to be healed; we simply receive what has been paid for!
Just like a past tense speaks of an action that has been fulfilled in the past, the requirements for your healing have been met more than 2000 years ago.
When Jesus breathed his last on the cross, with his last words: IT IS FINISHED.
To know that the price has been paid for your healing should stir up faith in you.
To know that you no longer have to do anything but believe in this truth should increase your confidence in this gift.
Just like that young girl who brimmed with so much confidence as she handed the credit card to the cashier, you must also be assured of the finished works of Christ in settling the price for your healing!
Prayer point
Thank you, Jesus, for your finished works on the cross. I believe that your death has paid the price for my healing. From now on, I will walk in the reality of this provision.
