Practical Devotion
Luke 18:1
Pray, pray, pray!!!
Since you were a child or since you got saved, you would have heard this a lots of times, that as a believer it is important that you lead a life of prayer. However, no matter how many times you’ve heard it or how cliche it sounds it is the truth!
Your pastor or teacher was emphasizing it for your sake. Throughout scriptures we see this instruction given over and over again. Let’s look at
Colossians 4:2
King James Version
2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
1 Thessalonians 5:17
King James Version
17 Pray without ceasing.
And our greatest example; Jesus, prayed countless times as well which we see recorded in scriptures.
Let’s look at
Luke 5:16
King James Version
16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
Luke 6:12
King James Version
12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Something said this many times in the Bible can not be ignored. It is emphatic.
So dear believer, prayer is very important. In fact, if Jesus the God man himself could pray, how much more you.
As a believer, prayer should be part of your life. It should be inculcated in your devotion that you pray. Maybe because you have seen it in scriptures or you might have been told a couple of times so you know you should pray. But the big question you might have been asking yourself is WHY SHOULD I PRAY? What is the importance of prayer? And this devotional would help answer that question.
-
Prayer projects faith in God.
You can’t claim to love God and not pray; just the same way you can’t claim to be in a relationship with someone and not talk to the person. You must be in constant communication with God. One fact about humans is that everything you love, you will surely give attention and time to. Regardless of how busy you might be you would ensure to give it a significant portion of your day.
So if truly you love God, you will give him your time and attention. You will ensure you communicate constantly and consistently with him. And fortunately for us, the lines of communication are always open in prayer.
You might say you are busy or too occupied. However, what you give your time to is less a question of how much time you have and more about how much you value a thing. If you value your relationship with God, you will make time for Him.
Prayer shows where you alliance truly is. It teaches your heart who your source is. So if God is truly important to you, then you will pray.

Desire is silent but prayer is heard.
Luke 18:1
New King James Version
1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,
God knows the intent of your heart. But that intent is communicated in prayer. It is a command- MEN OUGHT TO PRAY. So whether you feel like it or not you must pray.
You say that you have the Spirit of God, which is true and would never stop being true. But there is a lot more you can access in God when you pray. You are operating at the barest minimum because you haven’t learned to pray to save your life.
Scriptures says men ought to pray and not faint. Meaning if you don’t pray, you would faint. You would have moments of weakness that you won’t have the capacity to handle because you never built the capacity in the place of prayer.
Ezekiel 36:26
King James Version
26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
The desire of a man in Christ is for the Lord. if truly you have been saved, you must have a renewed heart and one proof of a renewed heart is pursuit. If truly you desire and love the Lord, you will pursue Him with all you have and It will be evident in your prayer life.
You are not pursuing him because you have not found him but because now that you’ve found Him, you desire more of Him.
Just the same way food is essential for the physical body, so also is the desire for the things of God essential for a man in Christ. As long as you are saved you must desire the things of God and this must be evident in your prayer life.

It is the last days.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
King James Version
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
The Bible has given you signs of the last days that there will be certain people that will appear to be goldly but are not actually godly. You must stay away from such people. And you can only do that if you are able to discern such people.
We are in perilous times, and in these times the love of many will wax cold. It is important to keep on praying. Stay in the place of prayer. The devil is looking around for who to devour. Don’t be a prey to the devil. Pray so the devil would not make a mess of you. Prepare yourself in prayer. Build capacity in prayer. Now is the time to set fire to that prayer altar.
Prayer Point:
My life is a life of prayer. I pray with the understanding that there is so much prayer does in me. Right now I declare that my prayer altar is rekindled.
