Preparation For Camp Meeting: Believer's Meetings
Ephesians 4:16
God is about to arrest the lives of many just as He did with Paul. He’s ready to shift destinies, change the trajectory of your life, and to release a collective impartation of His Spirit in the Catalyst Church.
Do you believe it?
That’s why we’re dedicating this time to prepare, to build up a hunger that can easily pull on every promise, desire and blessing God has prepared for us. In a meeting like this, God isn’t only planning to bless you through the ministers; He’s ready to bless others through you, too.
Remember when we spoke on the why we gather? It was emphasized that it is for our mutual strengthening and divine exchange. At camp, we’ll have a special time to pour into each other’s lives. This time is called a Believer’s Meeting.
Ephesians 4:16
New King James Version
16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
A Believer’s Meeting is God’s design for His body to build, encourage, and sharpen one another. It is a sacred moment where, through the expressions of the Spirit’s gifts, we all profit, we all benefit, and we are all deeply refreshed. This is a fellowship and communion of the Spirit that only believers can truly experience. It is for the effective working of the body.
Paul gives us a glimpse of this in 1 Corinthians:
1 Corinthians 14:26
New King James Version
26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
When Paul addressed the church in Corinth, he made it clear that in their gatherings, everyone expressed the gifts of the Spirit. Each one—yes, every one—had something to contribute. This is the essence of a Believer’s Meeting.
There are 4 major things that characterize a believers meeting:
1. The Word of God is taught.
2. There is worship to God and singing.
3. The things of the Spirit are demonstrated by all present.
4. We are edified and the needs of people are met.
These are the things we must see in believer’s meetings to the end that God is glorified and all present are edified. Now that you know what a believer’s meeting is, what is expected of you? Get into the flow! In other words, participate.
We can learn from the Corinthian church on this matter. Paul noted that they were a church full of utterance. He even commended them for their heart and fervent participation in the things of the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 1:4-5
New King James Version
4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus,
5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all [a]utterance and all knowledge,
This should be your disposition towards camp and beyond- that you are rich in utterance, you always have a desire you express the things of the Spirit. You should have a “FOMO” attitude when it comes to participating in the gifts of the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:31
New King James Version
31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
The things of the Spirit work with desire. Paul gives us a vital instruction, he says to earnestly desire. It is like a fervent burning desire for the things of the Spirit. The King James Version of this scripture says to covet earnestly.
In a believer’s meeting you must have a godly jealousy to give a word of knowledge or a word of wisdom. Desire the time for specifics not for show off but so your brother and sister are edified. Don’t be stereotypical but be full of zeal for the things of the Spirit.
In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul wrote:
1 Corinthians 12:1
King James Version
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Ignorance here means to be willfully disinclined or to choose to neglect the gifts God has bestowed upon you. This should be you. Desire to bless your brother and sister.
1 Corinthians 14:26
King James Version
26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
Paul emphasizes that each person has a role to play. Therefore, in a believer’s meeting, participation is expected from all. Be careful not to fall into the trap of overlooking fellow believers and waiting only for Pastor’s word or impartation. You limit yourself if you can’t receive from other believers.
If everyone is meant to participate, it follows that everyone can operate in the things of the Spirit.
Ephesians 5:18-21
King James Version
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Colossians 3:16
King James Version
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
In these verses, Paul emphasizes that as an individual, you can admonish others, give psalms, and spiritual songs – you can express spiritual things. So don’t underestimate yourself.
Notice in 1 Corinthians 14:26 that he mentions everyone having a psalm, doctrine, revelation, etc. This means you can give any of these. You have the capacity to flow in all these areas because you have the source at work in you – the Spirit of God.
Don’t restrict yourself by saying “my gift is prophecy”, while neglecting revelation gifts. You can operate in all! All these gifts are available to you!
As a possessor of the Holy Ghost, participation is your privilege. When in such gatherings, engage fully because you can. Don’t let concerns about reputation or others’ perceptions hold you back.
Declare to yourself:
“I can flow with the spirit, I can see visions, I can see revelations, I give utterance. All have been given together!”
This is your reality, embrace it! It comes naturally when you yield to the Spirit in those moments.
The final point in 1 Corinthians 14:26 is that everything is done for edification. A believers’ meeting isn’t a performance with spectators- it’s a place for empowerment. Meeting others needs results in joy!
As you share a word, be prepared to minister healing and whatever else is needed!
Prayer Point
Lord, I refuse to limit myself in these meetings. I choose to flow with the Spirit to meet the needs of other believers.
