Preparation For Camp Meeting: Honour
2 Corinthians 4:7
In the same way we examined yesterday, intentional preparation aligns our hearts to receive fully from God, removing any form of doubt and distraction. Today, we would talk about another powerful way to prepare adequately for a special meeting: Honour.
According to scriptures, to honour means to highly revere a thing or person, to place a value on it. It means to treat as uncommon. This mindset and attitude is so important when it comes to receiving from God and his vessels.
Let’s see an example in scripture that would help our understanding:
Genesis 28:10-12
New King James Version
10 Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran.
11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep.
12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
The story starts with Jacob on his way to Haran. He was tired and he needed to rest so he picked a stone and a spot, and he casually laid down his head to sleep. Little did he know that the stone he pick up (according to historians) is believed to be a stone of his Grandfather’s alter and upon it was the beginning of a life altering encounter with God.
As he slept, he dreamt. And when he woke up, he realized that where he was, was no ordinary place.
Genesis 28:16-19
New King James Version
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”
17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”
18 Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.
19 And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz previously.
The Bible says that once he came to himself he recognized the presence of God in that place and he took the same stone that he had casually used as a pillow for his head and set it up as a pillar for his alter to God and he anointed it.
Brethren, that recognition, that anointing and the setting up of that Altar is called honour. That stone/place was no longer treated as common after recognizing that God’s presence was there. It now became sacred. This is honour. He anointed it because he had come to place value on that experience with God.
This is the same response a believer must have when it comes to Christian gatherings especial special meetings. Your honour for the meeting shows God, yourself and others the value you place on the meeting. For you, it is not just a meeting we have every year. It’s a fresh time to meet with God. So you carry it with utmost esteem.
Honour is such a valuable currency in the spirit that it even translates to faith because what you don’t honour, you can never have faith in. Pastor would say that what you do not honour, you cannot receive from.
When you deeply honour and revere the meeting, you are tuning the “frequency” of your heart, positioning yourself to receive with clarity and depth. Honour opens you up, making you like a finely-tuned receiver, able to grasp the fullness of what God or those He sends our way have to pour into us.
Honour isn’t merely about respect. It is about recognizing and embracing how God operates through His people. Our mindset and posture are critical for receiving what God has for us through those He has appointed to lead, teach, and encourage us. To benefit fully, we must see the gathering, the people, the place chosen to carry His treasure.
So as we look forward to camp meeting what are the things you should honour?
1. The Gathering:
Matthew 18:20
New King James Version
20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.
The gathering of believers is a spiritual atmosphere. The Bible says when we gather God is present, therefore value must be placed on it. Don’t see it has common. Your heartfelt preparation towards the meeting is a show of value for the gathering of God’s people.
You show honour by participating and being present at every structure that has been set for you to prepare for camp. You show honour be being punctual for the meeting. You show honour by inviting others for the meeting because you know how powerful camp would be. This is how to prepare yourself in honour for the gathering.
2. The Ministers:
Apostle Paul writes:
2 Corinthians 4:7
New King James Version
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.
God’s works through people who we may consider or who seem “ordinary”. These individuals may have weaknesses and imperfections. But the divine treasure they carry is profound. Without a heart of honour, we may only see the flaws of the person and miss the divine message and all God has placed in them for us.
Prepare your heart to honour all the ministers God would be using in camp meeting. When preparing for a spiritual gathering, recognize that the people ministering are not there by chance. God has chosen them as vessels and he can bless you through these men.
This also goes for honouring other believers. God uses men to bless men. Don’t look down on any believer. They are there to be a blessing to you as well. As you prepare for camp meeting, pray to have a heart that discerns and honours God’s representatives to you and the meeting as well.
This involves not just respect for their role but an understanding that God’s treasures: wisdom, knowledge, blessings, impartation etc., are often passed through these men from God to you.
When we fail to recognize the spiritual authority God places in people around us, we limit our capacity to receive from Him through them.
Prayer Point
Lord, in this camp meeting, help me to have a heart of honour for the ministers and every believer. Help me not to disregard the meeting or anyone but be able to discern and receive all that you have deposited in them for me.
