Sponsored By The Spirit
Zechariah 4:6
When we talk about being sponsored by the spirit, we’re talking about what we have received through Christ. Remember this, once you believe the gospel you receive the Holy Spirit to live on your inside. This comes with certain privileges, one of which is sponsorship.
Imagine you’re a lawyer and you work for a big law firm owned by your father. You were given a case to defend and in doing that you have access to the company car, the company library, unlimited resources, and a database of influential allies to help you. Without a doubt, you’re certain you will win because you have a big firm backing you.
Now looking at the relationship we have with God, this is not so far off from your reality. Look at what Paul says:
Romans 8:15
New King James Version
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
By God’s spirit, we have been granted sonship such that we now can call God our father. He is our Dad! This isn’t just an employer-employee relationship this is a father-son relationship. The moment you accepted Christ you were adopted into God’s family and the same God that we call Father is the same God that has enlisted us into his army.
2 Corinthians 5:20
New King James Version
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
The Bible calls us ambassadors, representatives of Christ. We represent the interests of our home country i.e. heaven, here on earth. And as an ambassador in a foreign country has the backing of his home country while he carries out their affairs, the same can be said about you. As you represent the interest of heaven, you have backing.
What are the interests of heaven you may be wondering?
Mark 16:15-18
New King James Version
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
1 Timothy 2:3-4
New King James Version
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
The primary interest of God is souls. God’s business is soul business. This why he sent Jesus and it is why you have been in enlisted. Jesus Christ told the disciples to go into the world and make disciples of the nations. They went and we see the fruits today. They were able to do all that they did because they recognized that they were not going on their own, but that they were backed by the one who sent them.
Verse 17 says, “These signs shall follow them that believe”. Signs follow you just as it did them. You can cast out devils, take up serpents, heal the sick because “these signs follow you”. This is the evidence that you are backed by God.
Mark 16:20
New King James Version
20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
As they went out speaking, the Lord was working with them that is, alongside them. They weren’t alone. If you are going about God’s business you can never be left alone. If God sends you on an assignment you can be rest assured that you have his partnership.
Therefore, concerning our God-given assignments, we are not on our own; our capital is “GO” because the one that sends will sustain us, lead us and empower us.
2 Corinthians 3:5
New King James Version
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,
Paul understood that his sufficiency was not of himself but of God. Likewise, you as an ambassador of the kingdom. You don’t go about this world banking on your own sufficiency. Your sufficiency is of God. He has made you an able minister of the gospel.
Zechariah 4:6
King James Version
6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
The boldness we have is, humanly speaking, unexplainable because it has nothing to do with us or our capacity. Instead, it has everything to do with the spirit of God in you, empowering you to do all that God has sent you.
Daniel 11:32
King James Version
32 but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
When you know the one who is behind you, you will cease to be ordinary, he is the one who empowers you to do the things that you would not do on a normal day.
Finally, the one who is sent by God and recognizes the sponsorship of the Spirit will get up and go. It is not enough to know. What counts is in the doing. There is a world out there for us to take over, but we do not fear because the one who has been highly exalted and whose name is above every name is our sponsor.
Prayer Point:
I work in every ability I have in God; I recognize that the God of heaven is backing me up, so I go. The Spirit gives me the advantage so I do extraordinary things easily. I do not remain in my comfort zone. I get up and do the work.
