Sustenance: The Word
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Have you noticed how quickly the spiritual atmosphere changes when you leave a powerful conference or camp meeting? You return home with such joy and excitement, feeling like you could conquer any mountain. The words that were spoken over your life felt so real, and God’s presence was so strong.
But then, real life kicks in — work, family responsibilities, daily challenges, and slowly, that fire begins to cool down.
It’s not that what you experienced wasn’t real. It was absolutely genuine and from God.
But just like a plant needs water every day to stay green and healthy, your spiritual life needs daily nourishment to remain strong. Without this daily feeding, even the most beautiful plant will begin to wither.
This is where many believers struggle; they receive something powerful from God during special meetings, but they don’t know how to sustain it in their everyday lives. The good news is that God has given us everything we need to maintain and even increase what He has placed in us. And one of these that God has given us is His Word.
Yesterday, we learnt about sustaining what we have received through prayer and emphasized the importance of remaining stirred up. Today, we would remind ourselves of something equally as important: The Word.
One way to sustain and utilize what God has deposited in you at camp meeting is to remain anchored in His Word.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
New King James Version
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Every instruction you need, every correction that will keep you on track, every piece of guidance for your next step — it all comes through Scripture. The prophecies and words you received at the camp meeting are not separate from the Word; you are to continue in the study of the Word.
Look at the early church. They experienced the most powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit in history on the Day of Pentecost. Three thousand people were saved in one day. Signs, wonders, and miracles were happening regularly. Yet notice what they did immediately after this supernatural experience:
Acts 2:42
New King James Version
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Even after receiving the Holy Spirit with tongues of fire and supernatural power, they didn’t abandon the Word!
This text records that the Apostles “continued steadfastly” in doctrine — in the teaching and study of God’s Word. They understood that their supernatural experience needed to be sustained by consistent engagement with Scripture.
The apostles themselves, who had walked with Jesus and witnessed His resurrection, still prioritized the Word:
Acts 6:4
New King James Version
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.
If those who had direct access to Jesus still needed to devote themselves to the Word, how much more do we need to stay connected to it?
Psalm 1:2-3
New King James Version
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
The psalmist shows us that staying rooted in God’s Word is like a tree that is planted by a flowing water. This tree would be constantly nourished, consistently fruitful, never withering. Your growth in the faith cannot only depend on times of retreat like we had at Shekinah — it has to be a daily occurrence!
This is the only way the convictions that were stirred up in your heart would remain strong and the words that God has spoken upon your life would be brought to your remembrance.
The prophecies you received at camp were meant to drive you deeper into Scripture, not away from it. The teachings at camp meeting are meant to stir in you a hunger for more study of the word, bringing you to the place where the word of God becomes delightful to study and meditate upon.
Don’t let the fire from camp become a distant memory. Every morning you wake up without opening your Bible, you’re allowing yesterday’s revelation to grow cold. Every day you skip your study time in Scripture, you’re disconnecting from the source that sustains what God has given you.
The Word doesn’t just inform you; it transforms, empowers, and sustains you.
Hence, from today, make God’s Word your daily bread. Let it be the foundation upon which you build everything you received at camp. The prophecies and words you received should be rooted in consistent, dedicated study of Scripture.
Don’t just read the Word — meditate on it, declare it, and live by it. What you received at camp was real and powerful, but it will only be sustained by staying connected and rooted in God’s unchanging Word.
Prayer Point
Lord, help me to remain steadfast in Your Word. Let me not allow the words and experiences I’ve received to grow cold through neglect of Scripture. Give me hunger for Your Word daily, and let it be the foundation that sustains everything You’ve placed in my life. Make me like a tree planted by rivers of water, constantly nourished by Your truth.
