When you were younger, you probably knew this song, “Read your Bible, pray every day if you want to grow”. You might have learned it from your parents, in Sunday school, or from your friends. But regardless of where you learned it from, one message was passed across which is there are things you must do as a Believer to grow.

Just the same way you expect some developmental milestones from a child showing his growth, God expects you to grow in him and it must show in certain ways.

‭Ephesians 1:17-18

New King James Version

17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

The first thing to understand from this is that Paul was talking to people who were saved but yet he prayed that they grow in revelation knowledge, showing that growth is paramount.

Growth in God is important and one way we can grow in God is by studying the Word of God.

Dear believer, you must understand that the word of God is his manual for you to gain better knowledge of him. Stop looking for answers in the wrong places. He has revealed himself to you in His Word, so study the Word.

Scripture says in:

2 Timothy 2:15

King James Version

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The Greek word for ‘study’ is “spoudazō” which means to be diligent, to labour, and to make an effort.

Then it says, ‘Study to show thyself approved…,’ this means there is a standard you must meet in God. God does not expect you to have the same knowledge about his Word the same day you got saved. There should be better insight and more understanding of the Word.

So be diligent, and make an effort enough to meet that standard. If there is a right way to divide the Word of Truth, it means there is a wrong way to do so, and you can not rightly divide the Word if you do not take out time to study it.

It is not just enough to read the Word of God for hours every day, How has the scripture changed your life?

‭‭James 1:22

New King James Version

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

BE DOERS OF THE WORD!!

Truly meditating on the Word would leave you a changed man. Taking time to study the Word of God would change your perspective on a lot of things because of the growth you would experience.

There are certain prayers you would not pray anymore, and certain songs you would not sing because you have grown and you have a better understanding of the Word of God, you have a better understanding of your identity in Christ. This is what meditating on the word does in you.

Another reason why you must study the Word is because it shows you possibilities.

There are great examples of men in scripture who did not even have the Spirit within and did mighty things for the kingdom of God as well as men that had the Spirit of God within. The more you read about these people the see the possibilities you have in God, the more you understand that the same thing they did you can do also.

It helps you to see that no longer are you a child that is the responsibility of the kingdom but you are a son who is responsible for the kingdom.

So as you go about your day, meditate on the Word. Take ample time to study the Word of God as it is essential for your growth.

Prayer Point:

Father, I am a student of the Word. My love for your word increases more and more each day and by this, I have a better understanding of who you are.
