Have you ever tried to accomplish something extraordinary while surrounded by skeptics? Imagine a chef preparing a cake in a room full of people who have never seen or tasted one before. They scoff, insisting he’s wasting his time. Yet, despite their doubts, the chef continues, knowing that in the end, the result will speak for itself.

This is the kind of faith and perseverance Noah displayed for 120 years as he built an ark in obedience to God’s command.

Genesis 6:9
New King James Version
9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generation. Noah walked with God.

The world Noah lived in was steeped in wickedness and corruption. God’s heart was grieved by humanity’s depravity, and He decided to bring judgment upon the earth through a flood.

Yet, amidst the darkness, Noah stood out as a man who walked with God. His obedience and faith set him apart.

When God instructed him to build an ark, Noah did not hesitate, even though rain was an unheard-of phenomenon at the time.

Genesis 6:22
New King James Version
22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

Noah’s task was not a simple one. The ark was enormous, requiring years of labour and precise construction. More than that, Noah had to endure the ridicule of those around him. While the Bible does not record specific instances of mockery, it’s not hard to infer it.

Genesis 6:5 describes humanity as being consumed by evil, with every inclination of their hearts being corrupt. In such a world, where people lived in rebellion against God, it is reasonable to infer that Noah, building an enormous ark and proclaiming a coming flood was met with disbelief, skepticism, and possibly even mockery.

2 Peter 2:5 also refers to Noah as a “preacher of righteousness,” implying that he warned people about God’s coming judgment, yet no one listened. If they rejected his message, it is likely they ridiculed both his words and his work.

Imagine the reactions he must have faced: “Why build a boat when there is no water?” “Do you really believe a flood will come?” For over a century, Noah remained steadfast, driven by his unwavering faith in God’s word. His obedience was a testament to his trust in God’s plan, even when it seemed illogical.

Hebrews 11:7
New King James Version
7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

Noah trusted God’s word above human understanding. His faith was not passive; it was active and courageous, demonstrated by his willingness to follow God’s instructions despite the opposition.

His life teaches us that bravery often looks like standing firm in obedience even when others don’t understand. Though his message of righteousness was largely ignored because scripture says that only his family and the animals entered the ark with him. Noah remained steadfast, reminding us that our task is to obey.

Noah’s story shows us that obedience requires faith. When God calls us to act, we may not always understand His plan, but we are called to trust Him. His obedience not only saved him but also his family, demonstrating that God honors those who trust and follow Him wholeheartedly.

In our lives, bravery might look like standing up for our faith at work, pursuing a calling others don’t understand, or sharing the gospel in the face of rejection. Whatever God has called you to do, remember Noah’s example: Trust God’s word, endure opposition, and remain faithful in your witness. Courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s choosing to obey God despite it.

Joshua 1:9
New King James Version
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

God’s presence strengthens us for the tasks He assigns. Just as He was with Noah, He is with us, equipping us to be strong and courageous in fulfilling His purposes.

Today, choose to trust God fully, act boldly on His word, and remain unwavering in your obedience. Reflect on Noah’s faith and ask God for the strength to walk in similar courage in your own life. No matter the opposition or uncertainty, trust that His presence will sustain you, His word will guide you, and His promises will never fail.

Prayer Point:

Lord, thank You for the example of Noah’s faith and courage. Help me to trust Your word and obey Your instructions, even when it’s difficult. Strengthen me to endure opposition and remain steadfast in my calling. May my faith be unwavering, my obedience be bold, and my life be a testimony of Your goodness.
